Ferry Marine is an authorised Mercury dealer twenty minutes west of Edinburgh. We sell new Mercury outboards across the whole range — from a 2.5hp portable for the tender to a 425hp Verado
on a large RIB.

Ferry Marine - Authorised Mercury Dealer

Mercury's strength is choice at the top end and joined-up engineering at the helm. No other maker offers as many engines above 200hp, and Mercury builds the engine, the controls and the gauges to work as one system. If that's what your boat needs, a Mercury outboard motor is usually where the conversation starts.

Small Mercury outboards for tenders, dinghies and small ribs

The portables are FourStrokes — no oil mixing, easy starting, and light enough to lift.

For a yacht tender or an inflatable, the 2.5hp and 3.5hp are the lightest in the range. For a dinghy or a small fishing boat, the 4hp Mercury outboard, 5hp and 6hp share one lightweight platform. The 6hp Mercury outboard is the size most people end up with — enough to push a loaded boat against a tide. For a small rib or day boat, a 15hp Mercury outboard is where a portable starts doing real work, and the 20hp Mercury outboard gives it proper pace.

Tiller or remote, short shaft or long, manual or electric start: we'll match it to the transom before it's ordered. If you'd rather fit a portable yourself, you can: we'll set it up, check it over and show you how it goes on before the warranty is registered.

One Mercury range, five families

Mercury builds its outboards in families, and the family matters as much as the horsepower. Two engines with the same HP number on the cowl can suit very different boats.

Mercury FourStroke

Mercury 25hp FourStroke outboard engine

The backbone of the range, from 2.5hp upwards. Economical, straightforward, and the 4-stroke Mercury outboard most people picture. Several of the mid-range FourStrokes also come in Command Thrust form, with a bigger gearcase and propeller for heavy boats that need grip more than top speed.

Mercury Pro XS

Mercury Pro XS 150hp performance outboard engine

Tuned for performance, from 115hp. Quicker out of the hole and lighter for its power: the one for sportsboats and fast ribs.

Mercury SeaPro

Mercury SeaPro 150hp commercial outboard engine

Mercury's commercial-duty range, built to run long hours and put up with hard use. See Working boats below.

Mercury Verado

Mercury Verado V8 250hp outboard engine

The flagship, up to 425hp. Remarkably quiet and smooth, with power steering built into the engine itself. Single or twin, and the one that makes Mercury the first choice on many larger boats.

Avator Electric Outboards

Mercury Avator 75e electric outboard motor

Avator is Mercury's electric outboard range, silent and emission-free, for tenders, lochs and waters where petrol isn't welcome. We sell them and service them.

Picking between a FourStroke and a Pro XS of the same size, or deciding whether a Verado earns its price, is the conversation we have most. Tell us the hull, the load and how you use it, and we'll tell you which Mercury outboard motors for sale actually suit it — and which don't.

Mercury at the helm: digital controls, gauges and joystick docking

Mercury's biggest advantage over most makes isn't in the engine. It's what the engine connects to.

  • Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS). Electronic controls instead of cables: smooth, precise shifting, no cable stretch, and on twins, one lever can run both engines in sync.
  • SmartCraft and VesselView. Engine data on one screen — fuel flow, range, trim, temperatures, and fault codes before they become breakdowns.
  • Joystick Piloting. On twin installations, the boat moves sideways, pivots and holds position from a single joystick. It turns berthing a big boat in a tight marina into a non-event.
  • Built into your dash. Mercury's displays fit neatly into the custom acrylic dashboards we make, so a new helm can be part of the same job. See boat electrics and electronics.

How we fit and set up the engine itself is on our engine fitting and repowering page.

What comes with a Mercury from Ferry Marine

A five-year leisure warranty, registered by us

We register every new Mercury with Mercury the day you take it away, so the five years start on the right date and nobody has to chase paperwork later.

In stock, or with us in a week to ten days

Short waits. We normally carry stock of the popular Mercurys, and anything else usually reaches us in seven to ten days.

New and genuine

Every Mercury outboard for sale here is brand new, supplied through Mercury UK — no grey imports, nothing second-hand.

Your old engine taken care of

Repowering? Depending on its age and condition we may part-exchange the old engine against the new Mercury. If it's beyond that, we dispose of it properly.

Servicing by the people who rigged it

Your Mercury comes back to the workshop that set it up, and its full history stays with us. See outboard servicing and repair.

Mercury outboards for working boats and fleets

Tour boats, dive boats, military boats, workboats,  sailing-school ribs — commercial boats are where Mercury's SeaPro range earns its name. It's built for long hours at steady load, and it's the engine we'd look at first for a boat that works for a living.

  • Commercial warranty. Two years or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first, on Mercurys in commercial use.
  • On-site servicing. For commercial customers, we'll service on site, around your season — see outboard servicing and repair.
  • One contact for the fleet. Supply, fitting and servicing through the same workshop, so every engine's history sits in one place.

Commercial operators already run SeaPro Mercurys with us, and we'll work round your season rather than ours.

When we'd recommend a Mercury

  • You need a lot of power. Above 200hp, Mercury gives you more choice than any other maker, and the Verado is as refined as outboards get.
  • You're running twins. DTS keeps both engines in step from one lever, and joystick docking takes the stress out of berthing a twin-engine boat.
  • You want the helm to match. Engine, controls and gauges from one maker, designed to work together.
  • You're commercial. SeaPro is built for the hours.
  • You like the look of the data. VesselView tells you what the engine is doing, not just whether it's running.

For plenty of boats, another make is the better answer. We also sell and fit Suzuki outboard engines, and we'll tell you straight which one we'd put on yours.

A Mercury outboard dealer just off the M8

We're in Livingston, EH54, between Edinburgh and Glasgow and a few minutes from the motorway. That makes us the nearest Mercury marine dealer for much of central Scotland — and Mercury owners come to us from Fife, the Highlands, the west coast and the north of England too, because a new engine is worth the tow.

Before you buy a Mercury

Is a Verado worth it over a FourStroke?

On a bigger boat that covers real distance, often yes — it's quieter, smoother, and the built-in power steering makes long days easier. On a boat that mostly potters, a FourStroke does the job for less. We'll tell you which camp you're in.

Can I have joystick docking on my boat?

On new twin Mercury installations, it can be specified as part of the rig. Tell us the boat and we'll tell you whether it suits.

What warranty does a new Mercury come with?

Five years for leisure boats, registered by us on the day of handover. For commercial use it's two years or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first.

Can I fit a small Mercury myself?

For the small portables, yes — but as the dealer we have to check the fitting before the warranty can be registered. That's the pre-delivery inspection (PDI): we set the engine up, check it over and show you how it goes on. From 40hp upwards we supply Mercurys fitted, rigged and propped properly.

Do you sell two-stroke Mercurys?

No. Every petrol Mercury we sell is a new four-stroke.

Tell us the boat, and we'll spec the Mercury!

Send us the boat's make and length, what's on the transom now and how you use it. If you already have a Mercury in mind, say which. We'll come back with the engine, the controls and a price.
