Cookie Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
We only use cookies that are essential to run this website, unless you choose to allow analytics and Google Maps. Nothing optional is set until you say yes.
This policy explains which cookies ferrymarine.co.uk uses, what they do and how to change your mind. It applies to the website run by Ferry Marine Scotland, Unit 1, Hunting Park, Houstoun Industrial Estate, Livingston, West Lothian EH54 5QS.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work. Others collect statistics or let third-party services, such as a map, work inside the page.
Under UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the UK GDPR), we must ask your permission before setting any cookie that isn't strictly necessary.
How we ask
When you first visit, a panel appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You can:
- Accept all to allow analytics and Google Maps
- Reject all to allow essential cookies only
- Manage to choose analytics and maps separately
Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the site works either way. If you reject maps, you'll see a button to load a map, or a link to open our location in Google Maps instead. We ask again every 6 months, or sooner if this policy changes.
The cookies we use
The site uses three groups of cookies. Only the first is set without your permission.
Essential: always on
These make the site work and remember your cookie choice. They can't be switched off, and they don't track you.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| fm_consent | ferrymarine.co.uk | Remembers whether you allowed analytics and maps, so we don't ask on every page | 6 months |
| wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* | ferrymarine.co.uk | Keeps our own staff signed in to manage the site. Visitors never receive these | Session to 1 year |
Analytics: only with your permission
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people use, so we can improve the site. It tells us things like how many people visited the servicing page and roughly where in the UK they came from. It doesn't tell us who you are, and we don't use it for advertising.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics (ferrymarine.co.uk) | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random ID | 2 years |
| _ga_H03WF39TM4 | Google Analytics (ferrymarine.co.uk) | Keeps track of your current visit (session) | 2 years |
Google processes this data on our behalf and may store it on servers outside the UK, including in the United States, under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. If you withdraw permission, we delete these cookies from your browser straight away. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Google Maps: only with your permission
Our workshop location is shown with a Google Maps embed in the page footer and on some pages. When a map loads, Google may set its own cookies on google.com, such as NID and AEC. Google uses them to remember preferences, protect against abuse and, under its own policies, for advertising.
We don't control or see these cookies. Their names and durations are set by Google and can change. Typically they last up to 6 months. See Google's cookie policy for the current list.
If you don't allow maps, nothing is loaded from Google Maps until you click Load map.
Other third-party content
The site's typeface, Poppins, is loaded from Google Fonts. This doesn't set cookies, but your browser does send your IP address to Google to download the font files. Buttons that open WhatsApp, phone or email only connect you to those services when you click them.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time with the button below, or the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page. If you switch analytics off, we delete the Google Analytics cookies from your browser and reload the page.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking every cookie may stop some parts of the site working. These guides explain how:
To stop Google Analytics on every website you visit, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Changes and contact
If we add or remove cookies, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and ask for your permission again.
For questions about cookies or how we use your information, contact Ferry Marine Scotland at claire@ferrymarine.co.uk or 0131 331 1233. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information, including your right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
